BI-STATE Cash Register Corporation was founded in May 1977 by Mel Welch in Rockford, Illinois, one week after resigning from a very successful sales career with the NCR corporation. The company began with two employees and represented two hardware manufacturers—Tec America and Data Terminal Systems. The company immediately specialized in two vertical markets—supermarkets and the food and beverage industry. In 1979 the company expanded to Springfield, Illinois and established Mid-state Cash Register followed by East State Cash Register in Champaign, Illinois in 1980. In 1990 the company expanded into the Indianapolis marketplace and opened BI-STATE Retail Systems of Indiana. The company has now expanded to cover the states of Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.

BI-STATE Cash Register Corporation began in a small building in Rockford and moved to its present corporate location at 4317 Maray drive, Rockford, Illinois in April 1987 which it build to meets its rapid growth. BI-STATE Cash Register Corporation has dedicated itself to providing the highest quality of software, hardware, and service & support to the retail and hospitality markets.
